Mega planner

Which Mega should someone bring for the group?

A Mega does two jobs at once: it fights, and its aura multiplies every ally's damage by 1.3 on a move matching one of its own types and 1.1 on everything else. So the figure to rank on is the whole lobby's damage, not the Mega's. Both halves below are measured with the raid simulator, not assumed.

Someone should bring Mega Gengar

A lobby of Mega Gengar plus five Necrozma (Dawn Wings) does 250 damage per second, +22.1% more than six Necrozma (Dawn Wings) with no Mega at all. Its aura alone adds +28.9% to each ally, and the Mega itself does 11.7% less damage than the counter it replaces. Mega Houndoom actually fights harder (36.9 DPS against 30.1) but its aura is worth less to the rest of the lobby, which is exactly the trap this page exists to avoid.

How this is worked out

The reference counter is Mewtwo's best non-Mega attacker from the usual ranking (Necrozma (Dawn Wings) with Psycho Cut + Moongeist Beam). Each Mega gets its own best moveset from the same deterministic pass rankAttackers uses, then a 6-run Monte Carlo for its own DPS; the aura is measured by re-simulating the reference counter with activeMegaTypes set to that Mega's types — the same control /raids exposes as "Mega aura in the lobby", and cached per distinct type set so 61 Megas cost about twenty measurements. Lobby DPS is then the Mega plus five boosted allies. Two things it deliberately does not model: the Mega's own damage is not boosted by its own aura (Megas do not boost themselves, and the engine enforces that), and a party of six is assumed rather than the mixed lobby a real raid has — so read the percentages as a ranking, not as a promise about your particular group.
